A 26-year-old man is in jail after he reportedly assaulted and tried to disarm a police officer in St. John’s early this morning.
It was said to have happened just before 2 a.m. when patrol officers conducted a traffic safety stop in the west end of capital city. The driver was issued tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle and failing to transfer ownership.
Officers recognized the male passenger, who had been wanted on outstanding warrants. The male passenger requested to get out of the vehicle, but when he did, he became combative with officers.
The officers managed to get him under control and arrested him. The man is charged with resisting arrest, attempting to disarm a police officer, public mischief and breaching a court order.
He’s due to appear before a judge in provincial court today.
