Week 2 of Canada Summer Games begins in St. John’s; watch games live in NTV+

Baseball trailblazer Jaida Lee was back on the mound last night with another historic pitch, delivering a fast ball in a pre-game ceremony for the first-ever women’s baseball game at the Canada Summer Games.
Thousands of fans packed St. Pat’s Ball Park to see history with the host province playing British Columbia. It was Jaida Lee, of course, who helped make this happen. The St. John’s native made history at the last Canada Games, the first female to play at the boys event.
Well, it’s now a new era for women’s baseball. B.C. won the contest, led by a towering home run in the opening inning. However, the real winner was women’s baseball. The sport stole the spotlight to kick off week two. And, today, a number of other sports began action. Newfoundland and Labrador’s volleyball team opened the day with a straight-sets win over Nunavut. NTV will have more results as they become available.
Athletics also kicked off today, and a number of other sports are gearing up for week two. So far, the province has won three medals, all in swimming.
