Memorial University issues statement on neutrality

Local News, News

A new statement from Memorial University’s Board of Regents says the institution will stay neutral on current issues.

The statement, which was first considered by the board late last year, says the university and officers of the university will not take positions on current issues, in an effort to support differing opinions. The university says it will instead celebrate diversity, encourage open discourse and respect independent viewpoints.

The stance by the university does not apply to students, faculty, staff or academic units and will not prevent the university from facilitating or hosting different viewpoints. MUN says the statement mirrors practices at other universities in Canada.
