K-12 schools in St. John’s metro region closed for the day tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24

To allow for further cleanup of recent weather events, and more snow in the forecast, the Department of Education is advising that schools in the St. John’s Metro Region will be closed all day tomorrow, Tuesday, February 24.

This comes after another winter storm blanketed the Avalon on Sunday, prompting the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, and Town of Paradise to close their facilities today so crews could snow clear.

K-12 schools had to close for two consecutive days last week as two days of major snowfall brought upwards of 70 centimetres to the capital city. With more than 120 centimetres now down in some metro areas, the Department of Education is following suit with municipalities, giving crews a chance to properly clear the snow.

The Department of Education asks residents to be cautious and safe when travelling tomorrow, and watch out for kids who are off from school out playing.
