Government approves new municipality
The Local Service Districts of Mainland and Three Rock Cove on the Port au Port Peninsula, will soon be known as a single town. The Provincial Government has approved the request to incorporate as a new municipality, and are working towards next steps. Starting with establishing the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs establishing a transition committee consisting of departmental and Local Service Districts’ committee representatives. As a new municipality the west coast town will have enhanced legislative authority, access to increased revenue from sources such as property tax, business tax and municipal operating grants, as well as the ability to leverage additional provincial and federal funding for current and new municipal infrastructure projects.
