RCMP stops prohibited driver at traffic checkpoint

This weekend, Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP stopped and impounded the vehicle of a prohibited driver at an impaired driving checkpoint near Isle aux Morts.

On Nov. 15 at approximately 12:50 a.m., police at a checkpoint on Route 470 near Isle aux Morts stopped a passenger vehicle and determined that the driver — a 50-year-old man — was driving while prohibited Canada-wide.

The driver was arrested and charged with operation while prohibited. His vehicle was seized and impounded by police.

He was released from custody and will appear in provincial court in April 2026.
