Police arrest man for theft, breaching release order
Bay St. George RCMP arrested a 61-year-old man on Saturday after a theft from a retail store in Stephenville.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Jan. 3, police responded to a theft from a retail store on Queen Street in Stephenville. A man known to the staff left the store with several unpaid items, and staff were able to provide a name and description of the suspect, as well as surveillance video of the incident.
Police located the suspect outside a residence a short time later, and a 61-year-old man was taken into custody. He was later released, and is expected to appear in provincial court in February 2026 to face charges of:
- Theft under $5,000
- Failure to comply with conditions of a release order
