Mounties charge woman with theft of vehicle and mischief

Justice, News

RCMP on the Northern Peninsula are pursuing Criminal Code charges against a 21-year-old woman in relation to the theft of a motor vehicle on Thursday from the Port Saunders area and a suspicious fire on Friday in Rocky Harbour.

Just before 10:00 p.m. on Dec. 11, officers responded to a call about a vehicle stolen from a private residence along Central Avenue. A suspect was identified, and patrols were conducted in an attempt to locate her and the stolen vehicle.

At approximately 4:56 a.m. on Dec. 12, police responded to a report of a small structure fire involving a shed near a gas station on Westlink Road. Police responded to the scene, located the suspect and identified her as the woman also wanted by Port Saunders RCMP for the vehicle theft.

The 21-year-old Eddies Cove West woman was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle and was taken into custody without incident. She now faces criminal charges of theft of a motor vehicle and mischief.

She was released on conditions and is expected to make her first appearance in Port au Choix provincial court on March 24, 2026.

The stolen vehicle was recovered near Bonne Bay Pond on Sunday (December 14) by Deer Lake RCMP.

The investigations into the vehicle theft and structure fire are ongoing, with additional charges possible.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Port Saunders RCMP at 709-861-3555. Those with information related to the structure file are asked to contact Rocky Harbour RCMP at 709-458-2222.
