Many trick-or-treaters across the Island will experience a soggy Halloween, so make sure to have rain gear and waterproof bags ready for the kids as they head out this evening!
I remember being a kid going trick-or-treating in the rain with my brother. For some reason, my parents thought it was a good idea to give him a paper bag for his candy collection on a rainy night. From what I recall, the bag broke, and my brother was, naturally, not thrilled when all his candy ended up on the road!
As of just before 6 AM this morning, rain was already falling over a good bit of the Island, with temperatures creeping above the freezing mark. As the rain lifts north and eventually east, the warm air will do the same. I hope most of the steady rain will be done by 4 or 5 PM, with only showers remaining this evening. Temperatures by afternoon and evening will be in the upper single digits to lower teens for much of the Island. So, while it will be a soggy one, it will also be a warm one.
Labrador will see any rain ending this morning or early afternoon in the east, while the west will see increasing amounts of sunshine through the day. Temperatures will start on the mild side in the west but cool throughout the day. That same cool air will return to the coast as well, but that will not happen until later Thursday night. The kiddos in the east will be able to head out without being dressed in snow suits… in the west I cannot say that will be the case.
Beyond today we are looking at the potential for some rain and snow Friday and Friday night over parts of western Newofundlnad, the Great NOrhtenr Peninsulal and southeast Labrador. I expect there to be some snow along the Straits of the Big Land and on the top of the Northern Peninsula Friday afternoon and evening.
Areas farther south of the GNP and into the Green Bay-White Bay area will see rain Friday afternoon, ending as snow Friday night or early Saturday. Snow potential only looks to be a few centimeters, but it doesn’t take much to make things slick. Stay tuned for updates on this one!
