Another area of low pressure will pass over the Island portion of the Province Friday night and will subsequently bring rain to many areas. The rain will end from west to east overnight, first on the West Coast and last on the Avalon. That being said, the rain on the Avalon will not end until closer to 6 AM Saturday morning. While significant rainfall isn’t expected, some areas over the east half of the Island will see as much as 20 mm overnight.
The rain is occurring along a cold front. That front will dip south overnight and usher in some colder for Saturday compared to what many areas of the Island saw on Friday. Temperatures for many areas will be about 10ยบ colder Saturday afternoon, when compared to Friday afternoon. Labrador will a mix of sun and cloud for Saturday, with highs a couple degrees on either side of freezing.
Sunday will be similar to Saturday, except there will be some snow showers and flurry activity in the afternoon across much of the Island except the South Coast. While I do not anticipate significant amounts, there will be a few centimeters in the higher terrain of the West Coast and Northern Peninsula.
Also, don’t forget that we set the clock back one hour at 2 AM Sunday morning as daylight saving time comes to an end. This is also a good time to change out your smoke detector batteries to make sure they’re in working order in case of an emergency.
Beyond Sunday, the weather looks pretty quiet until Wednesday. At that point we are looking at the potential of some snow, ice and rain in Labrador and rain across the Island. Wednesday, right now, promises to bring another round of warm weather to much of NL.
