81-year-old man arrested by Lewisporte RCMP, charged with impaired operation
Lewisporte RCMP arrested an 81-year-old man Saturday night, after responding to a report of a suspected impaired driver.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on August 22, RCMP in Lewisporte received a call about a possible impaired driver who appeared to be stuck near a wooded area. Police began patrols and located the described vehicle a short time later. A traffic stop was initiated, and officers observed signs of impairment.
The driver, an 81-year-old man, failed a roadside breath test and was placed under arrest for impaired operation. He was transported to the detachment, where he provided additional samples that were more than twice the legal limit.
The man was released from custody and will appear in provincial court in November 2026 to face charges of impaired operation and impaired operation over 80mg%.
In addition, his vehicle was seized and impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.
