RCMP Traffic Services East seizes vehicle from young driver traveling twice the speed limit
A young driver is without their vehicle and their licence after they were caught driving twice the posted speed limit Thursday morning. As the long weekend arrives, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador reminds all drivers to slow down, plan ahead and stay safe on our roads.
On July 30 around 9:00 a.m., RCMP Traffic Services East was conducting proactive patrols of Salmonier Line (Route 90) near Holyrood, when an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Radar confirmed that the driver operating at speeds up to 102 km/h, where the posted speed limit is 50 km/h.
The vehicle was stopped and the 17-year-old driver was issued a ticket for the excessive speed. Their licence was suspended and police seized and impounded the vehicle.
This long weekend, RCMP officers will be patrolling our roadways and trails looking for impaired and unsafe drivers, checking for seatbelts and helmets and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating safely and with the appropriate documentation.
