RNC upgrades charges following death of six-year-old injured in pedestrian collision, funeral service today
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has upgraded charges against a St. John’s man following a pedestrian collision that claimed the life of a six-year-old boy.
Police say the collision happened on July 23 at the intersection of Thorburn Road and Larkhall Street. Officers with Operational Patrol Services and the Accident Investigation Division responded after the child was struck by a vehicle.
The accused, Tyler Day of St. John’s, was initially charged in connection with the incident. Following the child’s death, those charges have now been upgraded to include impaired driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death, operating over the legal limit causing death, dangerous operation causing death, and criminal negligence causing death.
Day is scheduled to appear in court today.
Meanwhile, family and loved ones are preparing to say their final goodbye. The six-year-old boy will be laid to rest today at the Muslim cemetery in St. John’s.
