Many parts of the province now under fire ban
Several areas of the province are now in a fire ban. The entire Avalon Peninsula is showing a fire index of very high, and the interior portion of the island is also showing very high.
Meanwhile, the Burin Peninsula, Labrador City and surrounding are classified as extreme – meaning forest conditions are dangerous with an extreme risk of wildfires.
Other parts of Labrador, near Happy Valley-Goose Bay are showing a fire index of high.
Residents are reminded to keep checking the province’s wildfire dashboard as the fire index can change at any given time.
