Capelin are rolling in at Middle Cove Beach

Nature, News

It’s a busy day down at Middle Cove Beach in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove as the capelin have started rolling in.

Capelin rolling in is usually a for sure sign that summer is here, and with such a beautiful day in the forecast, many flocked to the shoreline to see how many fish they can catch.

The beach was blocked Monday evening as well, with security on site directing traffic, and parking signs in place by the town.

It’s a tradition in this province; to grab a bucket, net, or whatever you can carry tons of little fish in, and scoop up as many as you can. Millions of capelin roll in every year, drawing whales close to the shore and people from all over to take in the fun.
