One person taken to hospital following collision involving dirt bike

Local News, News

A collision between a dirt bike and a vehicle in Mount Pearl on Monday evening sent one person to hospital.

The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Richard Nolan Drive, at an on-ramp to Pitts Memorial Drive. According to witnesses, the operator of a dirt bike crossed into the path of a turning vehicle. A collision occurred, which caused significant damage to the car, and left the rider laying in the roadway.

The individual was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the car was shaken-up from the incident, but otherwise uninjured. A second dirt bike rider, who was thought to be with the first, left the scene of the collision.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary closed the westbound lanes of Richard Nolan Drive in the area, as well as the on-ramp, as the scene was documented and the cause of the collision investigated.
