Grocery prices up almost six per cent in Canada since last February

Business, News

Grocery prices in Canada have increased by almost six per cent between this February and last, with some of the biggest increases seen among Atlantic provinces, according to Statistics Canada.
The new data tracks the average retail food prices for more than 100 common grocery items. The biggest price increase was seen in beef, chicken and coffee. Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, the price of beef increased by nearly 17 per cent in the last year, and pork by 10 per cent. Restaurant food prices also saw an increase, rising just under eight per cent year-over-year.

Stats Canada attributes the increases to supply challenges.
