Building lives: Island Furniture Association named among five organizations nationwide to receive $25,000 Grant from Purolator

Business, News

Island Furniture has been selected as one of five organizations across Canada to receive a $25,000 grant from the Purolator True North Small Business Grant Contest.

With thousands of applications submitted nationwide, this recognition highlights the organization’s long-standing commitment to creating meaningful employment and training opportunities that empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to build confidence and independence.

For more than 40 years, Island Furniture has operated as a not-for-profit social enterprise, reinvesting all proceeds back into the community. To date, the organization has supported over 1,800 individuals across the province through employment and training programs, helping build confidence, independence, and long-term career pathways.

“This recognition reflects what’s possible when business is driven by purpose,” said Jerry Senior, Chief Operating Officer. “Every opportunity we create goes beyond the individual; it strengthens families, supports communities, and shows the impact of investing in people.”

The $25,000 grant from Purolator will support Island Furniture in expanding awareness of its mission and creating more opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities across Newfoundland and Labrador. As a social enterprise, every dollar is reinvested into job creation and mentorship – driving meaningful impact for individuals, families, and communities alike
