Snow shuts down schools, busses and other operations for the morning
The first snow storm of 2026 has hit the eastern portion of Newfoundland, and the impacts are being felt. All metro area schools are closed for the morning, with an update coming at 10:30am. Several other schools are also reporting that they will be closed for the morning, including ones in Carbonear, Clarenville, Bonavista, and more. A full list of school closures can be found here.
Metrobus and GoBus will not be operating this morning, with an update at noon. The City of St. John’s preemptively cancelled morning activities at recreational facilities. Government offices, businesses, and shopping centres including the Avalon Mall have also announced changes to their operating hours as they dig out from under the snow.
