Holyrood RCMP investigate impaired driver, seize firearm

Justice, News

Holyrood RCMP charged a 31-year-old man with multiple Criminal CodeLiquor Control Act and Cannabis Control Act offences after responding a report from the public of a possible intoxicated driver last night.

At approximately 6:28 p.m. on Dec. 17, officers responded to a report from a concerned citizen about a suspected impaired driver operating a grey GMC truck in the Holyrood area.

Police located the described vehicle parked outside of a business on the Conception Bay Highway. Upon approaching the vehicle, police observed open alcohol containers and a leather firearms case inside of the truck.

The driver of the vehicle was located nearby and exhibited signs of impairment. An investigation confirmed that the man had been operating the suspected vehicle while impaired.

The driver — a 31-year-old Holyrood man — was arrested and provided with a demand for a breath sample, which resulted in a failure. A subsequent search of the truck resulted in the seizure of a firearm and loose ammunition. Various cannabis products and open alcohol were also seized from within the vehicle.

The man’s vehicle was seized and impounded. He was released with conditions and will appear in court at a later date on charges of:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired
  • Open liquor in a vehicle
  •

He is also scheduled to appear in court in February 2026 on previous, unrelated impaired driving charges.
