Groundbreaking ceremony to mark start of Habitat for Humanity build in Mount Pearl
The City of Mount Pearl, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the provincial government, is launching a new affordable housing project to support families in our community.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at 11 Glendale Avenue, the future site of Habitat for Humanity’s latest build.
The project is made possible through a land exchange agreement between the City and Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador. Habitat for Humanity’s property at 117A Croucher Avenue was exchanged for the City-owned parcel at 11 Glendale Avenue, a location better suited for residential construction.
“In Mount Pearl, we support Habitat for Humanity’s work in supplying safe and affordable housing.” said Mayor Dave Aker. “We are proud to provide this opportunity to help families in need and extend our gratitude for the incredibly important work being done in our community to make this possible.”
“We are excited to partner with the Federal and Provincial Governments and the City of Mount Pearl on our new build project. With the help of volunteers, donors, and community partners, we will provide two hard working families with the opportunity to build stability and stronger futures with affordable homeownership” said Sandra Whiffen, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador.
“We value the important work that Habitat for Humanity does, and we look forward to partnering with them to build more projects like this in the years to come,” said Honourable Joedy Wall, Minister of Housing. “It’s about building a future where opportunity thrives, where no one is left behind, and where government works for all of us.”
