Police arrest man for possession of cocaine, weapons
Officers with RCMP Labrador District General Investigation Section (GIS) have laid charges against 55-year-old Paul Melville Vader for possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of a dangerous weapon and other criminal offences.
On Nov. 27, police in Happy Valley-Goose Bay received a report from a concerned citizen about a man who appeared to be unconscious in his vehicle. Officers attended the scene and located the driver, who voluntarily surrendered a quantity of suspected cocaine and was arrested without incident for possession.
During a search, police also located and seized a quantity of cash, an additional amount of suspected cocaine and items consistent with drug trafficking activity, a prohibited weapon and several imitation handguns.
Vader now faces charges under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act and Criminal Code, including:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
He was released from police custody with conditions and will appear in provincial court at a future date.
