Justice, News

Bay St. George RCMP arrested a 20-year-old woman on Friday evening after a theft from a retail store in St. George’s. The woman now faces charges of theft and assault with a weapon.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., on Dec. 5, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a theft from Chubb’s Convenience store on Main Street in St. George’s. A store employee reported that a woman left the store with unpaid merchandise and provided a description of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle.

When the employee attempted to obtain the suspect vehicle’s licence plate, they were nearly struck by the vehicle, which fled towards Stephenville.

Police located the suspect at a residence a short time later and a 20-year-old Irishtown woman was taken into custody. She is expected to appear in provincial court on February 5, 2026, to answer to Criminal Code charges of assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with any dash camera footage of the incident is asked to contact the Bay St. George RCMP at 709-643-2118.
