Bay St. George RCMP respond to break and enter, man charged with assault and weapons offences

Police arrested and charged a 31-year-old Corner Brook man on Wednesday in relation to a violent break, enter to a home in Stephenville.

At approximately 10:43 a.m. on Dec. 3, officers responded to a report of a break, enter in progress at a private residence on Main Street in Stephenville. The suspect — armed with a weapon and wearing a face covering — entered the home and confronted an occupant inside.

The suspect fled the residence on foot prior to police arrival.

Officers conducted patrols of the area and located 31-year-old Spencer Bell, who matched the description provided to police. Bell was arrested without incident.

Bell faces charges under the Criminal Code, including:

  • Break and enter with intent to commit,
  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Uttering threats,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Mischief under $5,000 – damage to property,
  • Disguised with intent to commit an offence,
  • Fail to comply with a condition of an Undertaking.

Bell appeared in provincial court on Wednesday and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for today (December 4, 2025).

The investigation is ongoing.
