Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrest ATV driver for flight from police

News

A 26-year-old man was arrested by Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP on Oct. 31 after fleeing from police on an off-road vehicle.

At around 2:38 p.m. on Friday, police attempted to stop an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) operator who was driving on the roadway in town without a helmet. Police activated emergency equipment and the driver fled off at a high rate of speed in traffic. Police did not pursue in the interest of public safety and the safety of the operator.

A short time later police observed the same operator on the roadway headed in the opposite direction, still without a helmet. He again fled and nearly collided with two nearby passenger vehicles.

The ATV operator was identified by the officer and was later arrested at his home. He was released to appear in court at a later date to answer to criminal charges of flight from police and dangerous operation. The ATV was seized and impounded.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges under the Highway Traffic Act are anticipated.
