Abby Newhook signs two-year deal with Boston Fleet
Newfoundland and Labrador hockey star Abby Newhook is staying in Boston. The Professional Women’s Hockey League’s Boston Fleet has signed the 23-year-old St. John’s native to a new two-year contract through the 2027-28 season, rewarding an outstanding rookie campaign.
Newhook was one of the Fleet’s three protected players during the league’s expansion process after earning a spot on the PWHL All-Rookie Team. She scored seven goals and added seven assists in 29 regular-season games, led all rookies with an impressive plus-17 rating, and chipped in with an assist during the playoffs.
The younger sister of Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Newhook, Abby developed her game in this province before starring for four seasons at Boston College, where she captained the Eagles in her senior year. She also made history by becoming the youngest girl from Newfoundland and Labrador—at just 14 years old—to commit to an NCAA Division I hockey program.
Now, after a breakthrough first professional season, one of the province’s brightest hockey stars is ready for the next chapter with the Boston Fleet.
