The City of St. John’s has officially opened the Galway Village Green Playground.
The playground includes 6,500 square feet of accessible playground, a large multi-purpose court with basketball nets, a picnic area, trails and pathways and a dedicated parking area.
The new playground will accommodate physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities.
The playground has many additional features, including a poured-in-place rubber surfacing allowing for a barrier-free transition from pathways to the play area.
There is also a Crab Trap with an Alpine Slide, a Cube play structure, a We-Saw, and a We-Go-Round.
A cozy dome, various spinners, a swing set and a musical area are also on-site.
This marks the completion of the first phase of the playground. In the future there, will be a splash pad added along with washrooms, a community garden, a social gathering area and additional green space and trail connectivity.
This was a joint project with the City of St. John’s investing nearly $1.9 million and Galway Residential Development LP providing the land.
