Regiment defeat Eagles 5-1 to take a 3-1 playoff series lead; Game 5 goes tonight in Cape Breton
The Newfoundland Regiment played a strong road game for 60 minutes in a 5-1 win over the Cape Breton Eagles on Wednesday night at Centre 200 to take a 3-1 series lead.
Marek Danicek picked up where he left off last night as he opened the scoring six minutes in with a backhand breakaway beauty to make it 1-0 Newfoundland. Maxime Sauthier would reply with just 21 seconds left in the 1st, his second in as many nights, to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.
Newfoundland started to take command of the contest in the second however as Ryan Dwyer and Louis-François Bélanger found the back of the net to make it 3-1 for the visitors going into the 3rd.
Dwyer made it a pair early in the final frame before Maddex Marmulak sealed it with a break away eight minutes before the end of regulation to make it a 5-1 final in favour of the Regiment.
Louis-Antoine Denault made 20 stops in the Newfoundland net for his third straight victory.
Game 5 goes tonight at Centre 200 where a Regiment win would see them advance to round two. Game 6 and 7, if necessary, are back in St. John’s at the Mary Brown’s Centre
