An area of low pressure is in the process of exiting the Province and on the north side of it, rain has changed to snow over eastern sections of the Island, and the Avalon Peninsula. The snow will end in the next few hours, and the weather will improve quickly.

Behind this low, the weather will get decent across the Province. We will have sunshine for most areas today, even areas that are seeing snow this morning. Temperatues will be on the chilly side today, and will generally fall as the day progresses behind our eastbound low and cold front.

Tomorrow starts quiet but it looks like snow will push into parts of Labrador during the second half of the day.

Beyond that the weather later this week will get interesting. And despite what you’ve seen on social media, it’s way too early for me to put out snowfall forecasts for parts of the Island for the Thursday into Friday time frame.

There is still a tremendous amount of uncertainty in this forecast. The range on one model’s ensembles (you cannot access those freely) shows a massive range of snow possibilities for the St. John’s Metro and the Island in general.

When there is spread like this, it tells me the model is having difficulty resolving the dynamics in the atmosphere, and the forecasts may swing wildly on the deterministic models (what you see on Windy, etc) over the next 48+ hours.

I will keep you updated.
