Emergency crews responded to two separate collisions on Sunday, from which multiple people were taken to hospital.
At about 10:45 a.m. a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Ottawa Street and Escasoni Place in the east end of St. John’s. The crash caused moderate damage to an SUV and to a taxicab. No occupants of the SUV were injured, however a passenger in the taxi was taken to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. Crews were forced to wait almost forty minutes for an ambulance, which was summoned from the town of Clarke’s Beach.
A second collision occurred at about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Blackhead Road and Maddox Cove Road. The near head-on crash caused extensive damage to both vehicles. Several people were taken to hospital, including two children, however their injuries were not believed to be serious in nature. A dog, who was in one of the vehicles, escaped into the nearby woods during the ordeal.
Traffic was slowed in the areas of both collisions until the scenes could be cleared.
