
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is seeking the public’s assistance with an investigation of a fatal collision in St. John’s.
Tuesday morning (July 1) at approximately 8:45 a.m. police and emergency responders were called to a serious motor vehicle collision on Pitts Memorial Drive, eastbound between Heavy Tree Road and Kilbride. A collision had occurred, between a 2006 black Dodge Charger and a 2003 white and blue Suzuki motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
A short time later, the 40 year-old male from Conception Bay South who was operating the motorcycle was pronounced dead. The RNC sends its sincere condolence to the family and friends of the deceased.
The RNC is actively investigating this event and seek any information connected to the vehicles involved.

Earlier story: A serious collision on Pitts Memorial Drive on Tuesday morning closed a portion of the highway for several hours, and sent one person to hospital.
At about 8:45 a.m. emergency crews descended on the eastbound lanes of the highway, between Heavy Tree Road and Kilbride. A collision between a car and a motorcycle had occurred, the force of which causing extensive damage to both vehicles, which came to rest over 150 metres from where the collision took place. The operator of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with what were reported at the time as serious injuries.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) closed both eastbound lanes in the area for several hours as accident reconstructionists gathered information from the scene, which included a large area of debris and tire marks on the roadway.
