Whitbourne RCMP investigating report of investment scam, asking any possible victims to come forward
Whitbourne RCMP is investigating a possible investment scam after receiving a report of a man approaching residents in the area, claiming to be a registered financial planner and offering large returns on an investment of cash. Police are asking any possible victims of this scam to contact them.
On January 26, police received a report from a concerned citizen about a man approaching residents in the Whitbourne area, promising large returns on cash investments. The man presents himself as a financial advisor, and requests up to $100,000 in cash to invest.
The scammer is described as a man in his 50s, who claims to be from the Gander area and has introduced himself using different combinations of the names Warren and Bennett (i.e. Bennett Warren or Warren Bennett). Police caution that he is not a registered financial advisor and does not have the capability to invest or provide returns on any amount of money.
Whitbourne RCMP believe that residents in the area may have already encountered this person, however, no reports have been received from possible victims at this time. If you believe you have been in contact with this scammer, please call Whitbourne RCMP at (709) 759-2600 to make a report.
