Whitbourne-Placentia RCMP respond to weapons complaint, one man arrested

Justice, News

Thirty-eight-year-old Aaron Woodford was arrested by Whitbourne-Placentia RCMP on Thursday afternoon following a report of a disturbance on a residential property in Long Harbour.

Shortly before 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 26, police were called to a home in Long Harbour after an individual reported a man had threatened him with a handgun.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and a Critical Incident Commander were engaged, and officers from Clarenville, Trinity-Conception District and the Traffic Services East unit also responded to the scene to assist.

The suspect fled the home before officers arrived at the scene. As police believed he could be armed, a public advisory was issued asking all residents to contact 911 with any information about the suspect and his car. A short time later, his vehicle was seen in Norman’s Cove, and police located 38-year-old Aaron Woodford at a home in the community.

Woodford was arrested without incident. Police recovered a handgun-style air gun at the scene of the Long Harbour home.

Woodford has been charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Assault
  • Assault with weapon or imitation

He was held in custody overnight and is expected to appear in provincial court today (February 27).
