U.S. strikes Venezuela, captures President Maduro

News

The United States has hit Venezuela with a “large-scale strike” and captured the country’s president, Nicolas Maduro.

The legal authority for the strike, and whether U.S. President Donald Trump consulted Congress beforehand, was not immediately clear, the Associated Press reported Saturday. The American military action, which plucked Venezuela’s leader from office, echoed the U.S. invasion of Panama that led to the surrender and seizure of its leader, Manuel Antonio Noriega, in 1990, exactly 36 years ago Saturday.

Trump will make an address at 12:30 p.m. NST.
