Trump continues to threaten tariffs over smoke after sitting with PM at World Cup final
Despite sitting side-by-side at the World Cup final, U.S. President Donald Trump is keeping the pressure on Canada over wildfire smoke.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Trump said he has a good relationship with Prime Minister Mark Carney, but insisted Canada’s wildfires “have to stop.” Trump claimed the smoke is polluting American air and suggested Canada could face damages or even higher tariffs.
PM Carney and his wife watched the championship alongside Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The latest comments come just days after Trump first threatened new tariffs linked to the cross-border wildfire smoke.
