Top Vatican advisor visiting St. John’s this week
In a province still haunted by some of the Catholic church’s most notorious abuse scandals, the Vatican’s leading expert on safeguarding minors and vulnerable adults will be visiting St. John’s this week.
Dr. Hans Zollner, a German theologian and psychologist, will deliver a series of university lectures and training sessions beginning Monday.
The events include a session at Memorial University on the ethics and responsibility of the mission of the church, as well as an interdenominational gathering at Queen’s College Chapel. The visit is being orchestrated by local advocate and clergy abuse survivor Gemma Hickey who worked closely with Zollner in Rome to spearhead amendments on Canon Law.
