Tech-Lift captures provincial Tier 1 ball hockey championship

News, Sports

The Tech-Lift Ball Hockey Club capped off a perfect weekend by capturing the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Ball Hockey Association Tier One Championship, finishing the tournament with a flawless 6-0 record.

Tech-Lift completed an unbeaten run through the tournament with two hard-fought victories on playoff Sunday. In the semifinal, the club battled back from a late deficit to defeat the Gander Raiders and earn a place in the championship game.

The final featured a rematch of a highly competitive round-robin matchup against a veteran Crown Cabinets Ball
Hockey team. Tech-Lift’s Ty Peddigrew opened the scoring, but Crown Cabinets responded quickly and carried a 2-1 lead into
the third period. With the championship on the line, Matteo Rotondi blasted home a power-play goal from the point to tie the game and shift momentum back in Tech-Lift’s favour.

Andy Knight then redirected home the go-ahead goal to put Tech-Lift in front, before Peddigrew added an insurance marker to seal the championship. Clay Ryan earned the victory in goal as Tech-Lift defeated Crown Cabinets 4-2 to complete its perfect 6-0 tournament.

The championship marks back-to-back provincial titles for much of the group. Led by head coach Donnie Gosse, many of the same players captured the 2025 championship as members of the U23 NL Selects. The team will now turn its attention to the 2026 Men’s A National Championship in Calgary this August, where Tech-Lift will represent Newfoundland and Labrador against some of the top ball hockey programs in Canada.

The provincial championship is another major step in Tech-Lift’s broader two-year plan, which includes competing at the 2026 Nationals in Calgary before returning home for the 2027 Men’s A National Championship in Newfoundland and Labrador, where the club will compete as the host team.

With a perfect provincial tournament behind them, a talented young core, added veteran experience, and championship expectations firmly established, Tech-Lift now sets its sights on the next challenge, Calgary next month.
