UPDATE: TCH west of Clarenville expected to remain closed until tomorrow after tractor trailer crash

News

Police say the Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed in both directions west of Clarenville near Thorburn Lake due to a crash involving a tractor trailer.

Due to bridge damage caused by the collision, the TCH is expected to remain closed in both directions for an extended period. Police expect the highway will not reopen until Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the earliest.

The RCMP has set up a detour. Westbound drivers can exit the TCH at Route 230 (Bonavista Highway) and use Route 233 through Musgravetown. Eastbound drivers can exit at Route 233 and use Route 230 to rejoin the TCH.

Drivers are asked to use caution and patience, and to obey all directions from first responders.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
