Targa Newfoundland has renamed a popular stage in honour of two departed friends who were long-time supporters of the rally. the Colliers-Conception Harbour stage will now be known as the Curran-Phillips Stage in recognition of John Curran and Paddy Phillips.

Patrick Leo (Paddy) Phillips passed away on May 22 at the age of 82. Paddy was a huge force in the Colliers community and a major supporter of Targa Newfoundland. He served as mayor, fire chief, Targa stage commander, fundraiser and Targa party organizer.

He has gone to join his friend John Curran, former mayor of Conception Harbour, who we lost in 2011.
“This renaming is done in memory of the two guys who were best friends and who both spearheaded that stage over 25 years,” said Robert Giannou, Targa owner. “They are community legends. Moreover, Paddy was a best friend to us and of course to Targa Newfoundland.”
