News

Gros Morne National Park is advising that Swimmer’s Itch has been reported at Trout River Pond.

Swimmer’s Itch is a naturally occurring condition in freshwater that is caused by a small parasite that can burrow into the skin.

While there are no serious health concerns, it can be uncomfortable. Gros Morne National Park has shared tips to help reduce your risk, including avoid swimming in areas where Swimmer’s Itch has been reported, avoid swimming for long periods in shallow water or near marshes and towel off immediately after leaving the water.

If you develop symptoms, consult a medical professional for advice on treatment.
