St. John’s baseball star Jaida Lee drafted into new women’s pro league
Baseball trailblazer Jaida Lee has reached another historic milestone – she’s going pro. The St. John’s native was drafted 14th overall Thursday night by the New York franchise in the newly formed Women’s Professional Baseball League.
Lee, now attending the University of British Columbia, is widely recognized as one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s top athletes. She made national headlines during the 2022 Canada Summer Games when she became the first female player to compete in the event. Her participation helped pave the way for change, with female baseball later added as an official Canada Games sport.
The Women’s Professional Baseball League will debut its inaugural season with teams based in New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and Lee is set to be part of its first chapter.
