A single-vehicle crash early Sunday afternoon felled a utility pole and prompted a street closure in the centre of St. John’s.
Shortly after noon emergency crews were called to a portion of St. Clare Avenue, near the Knights of Columbus, after the driver of a small SUV lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The force of the crash caused significant damage to the vehicle, and snapped the pole at its base. With the pole suspended by wires over the street, police were forced the close a portion of St. Clare Avenue until crews with Newfoundland Power secure the wires and remove the damaged pole.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured.
