ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — The Newfoundland Rogues lost their second consecutive home game against the Sudbury Five 105-100 on Valentine’s Day. Saturday marked the Rogues’ fourth straight defeat under new head coach Doug Partridge to start the year.

Fans at the Mary Brown’s Centre saw a close game with the Rogues picking up the lead right before halftime, going into the break with all the momentum.

The defending Basketball Super League champions Sudbury Five weren’t going to give up easily, though, bouncing back with an strong third quarter. The two teams scores stayed tight during the final quarter, but it was the Five who pulled out a victory, completing the two-game series sweep over the Rogues.

The Five were led in scoring by guard Charlie Marquardt, with a game-high of 35 points. Rogues star guard Dedric Boyd led all Rogues in scoring yet again with 26 points.

The Rogues have little time to prepare before heading out on their first road trip of the season. The road trip starts in Lake Erie on Feb. 16, playing 10 road games before returning to the Mary Brown’s Centre on March 11 to take on Saint John.
