Rocky Harbour RCMP stop two drivers for excessive speeding on Route 430
RCMP Traffic Services West and Rocky Harbour RCMP suspended the licences of two drivers after they were stopped on the Northern Peninsula for excessively speeding along Route 430 this past weekend.
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 15, an officer of RCMP Traffic Services West on patrol witnessed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on the main highway through the community of River of Ponds. A 17-year-old youth was ticketed and had their licence suspended after they were captured by radar travelling at 115 km/hr where the posted speed limit is 50 km/hr.
Later that day, around 2:34 p.m., a Rocky Harbour RCMP officer witnessed a vehicle increase its speed and pass a line of traffic, while travelling upwards of 149 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone on Route 430 just south of St. Pauls. The driver, a 67-year-old man, was ticketed for speeding and crossing a solid line. He had his licence suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded.
RCMP officers proactively patrol roadways across Newfoundland and Labrador looking for speeders, impaired drivers, checking for seatbelts and ensuring vehicles and drivers are operating within the law and with the appropriate documentation. Motorists are reminded to slow down, drive safe and sober and ensure that your licence, registration and insurance are always up to date.
