RNC respond to Canada Day scooter collisions

Justice, News

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) responded to two separate collisions involving scooters on both the east and west coasts of the island.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., on Wednesday (July 1), officers responded to Valleyview Drive in Corner Brook, where an eight-year-old boy riding an e-scooter had been struck by a vehicle that was reversing. A couple of hours later, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers responded to Park Avenue in Mount Pearl, where a 13-year-old boy was struck while riding his scooter across the roadway. There were only minor injuries to the youth involved.

The RNC is asking all road users to:

  • Reduce speeds in residential areas, especially around playgrounds or areas where children frequently gather.
  • Share the road; look for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
  • Avoid distractions and stay alert. Place your phone out of arms reach.
  • Wear a helmet and visible clothing on bikes, scooters and motorcycles.
  • Obey all traffics signs and signals.
