RNC charge woman with fraud
The RNC has charged a Conception Bay South woman for defrauding a violence prevention organization.
In December of 2023, police received a report alleging fraudulent activity by an employee of the not-for-profit. After a lengthy investigation, officers of the Economic Crime Unit have determined Valerie Barter had committed acts of fraud exceeding $135,000. The 50-year-old is now facing charges of:
- Fraud Over $5,000
- Forgery
- Uttering a Forged Document
- Using a Forged Document
- False Pretense
- Mischief Relating to Computer Data
- Breach of Trust
Barter was released to appear in court at a later date. She was arrested on related charges in December 2024.
