RNC arrest man in relation to recent fires targeting pole lines and communications towers
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has arrested a man for intentionally setting two fires in St. John’s.
The RNC and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to several suspicious fires in St. John’s this week. On Monday (July 20) shortly after 7 p.m., officers responded to a fire at a communication tower on Nagle’s Place. On Tuesday (July 21), officers responded to suspicious activity at a radio tower on Densmore’s Lane, where they located a recent fire scene that appeared to have extinguished without requiring the intervention of fire services. It was determined that the fire had also occurred on July 20. An investigative team was assembled to investigate the blazes. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but significant structural damage occurred.
This afternoon, a 30-year-old man was arrested on two counts of arson and two counts of mischief causing property damage. He was held to appear in court tomorrow.
