RNC appealing for information from the public following collision

The RNC is looking for information from the public as they investigate a collision that happened in St. John’s on Friday, January 16.

It happened around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. RNC officers initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle that was travelling south on Oxen Pond Road. The vehicle fled from the stop and struck two vehicles that were travelling through the Freshwater Road and Stamps Lane intersection. The vehicle was not being pursued by officers at the time of the collision.

The male driver fled on foot and was arrested by police nearby after a brief chase. The 27-year-old was identified as Ontario Resident Zephani Scott who was held to appear in court on charges of flight from police, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, an dangerous operation of a vehicle.

As part of the investigation, RNC Collision Reconstructionists are seeking any witnesses or video footage in the lead up to or immediately following the collision. The suspect vehicle was a white Hyundai Sonata with the license plate number JWW 814.
