Regiment to face Armada in second round of QMJHL playoffs

News, Sports

The stage is set for round two of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Newfoundland Regiment will square off with Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the best-of-seven conference semifinal series, which kicks off Thursday night in Quebec.

The Armada actually started as the St. John’s Fog Devils when Newfoundland was granted an expansion franchise. The team was sold to a Quebec-based group for the 2008–09 season where it became the Montreal Junior Hockey Club.

The Armada were an offensive force during the regular season, finishing second overall in the western conference with 40 wins in 64 games, scoring a conference-leading 270 goals.

The Regiment defeated Cape Breton in six games to win their opening round series, while Armada swept Victoriaville to advance.
