Regiment break 56-year QMJHL attendance record in debut season
The Newfoundland Regiment have broken a 56-year-old QMJHL record for average attendance by a first-year team, surpassing the mark set by the 1969-70 Quebec Remparts.
The record fell at the end of the team’s home regular season schedule at Mary Brown’s Centre. The Regiment finished their first season averaging 5,234 fans per game, the highest average for any expansion team in league history.
“This is a moment we will never forget,” said Glenn Stanford, president of the Newfoundland Regiment.
“From night one, this community showed up. To break a record that has stood for over half a century is a testament to the incredible passion of every Newfoundlander and Labradorian who packed Mary Brown’s Centre this year. This record belongs to the fans.”
The team drew sellout crowds throughout the 2025-26 regular season, including back-to-back sellouts against the Moncton Wildcats and a sold-out final home weekend against the Halifax Mooseheads.
The Regiment will now turn their attention to the playoffs. They open the 2026 QMJHL playoffs against the Cape Breton Eagles on Thursday, March 26 at Mary Brown’s Centre. The first-round series is best-of-seven.
St. John’s hosts Games 1 and 2 before the series shifts to Cape Breton for Games 3, 4 and 5. The Regiment would host Games 6 and 7 if needed.
